Wolgarston students continue to punch above their weight with another year of sixth form success

Once again, Wolgarston High School in Penkridge has recorded another strong set of sixth form results.

A Level results are not only up on last year’s results for the school but will outstrip the National and Staffordshire average scores. Wolgarston has enjoyed a place at the top end of the league tables for many years now and this trend shows no signs of stopping when they are published in the winter.

Philip Tapp, Headteacher said, “We are absolutely delighted to have an average grade of a B- for students taking three or more A Levels. We’ve also seen some tremendous subject area successes with special mentions to our Maths, History, Sociology and Media students and teachers who outdid themselves with some fantastic grades.

The success didn’t just stop at A Levels, with an excellent set of results for the vocational subjects offered at BTEC Level 3.

Philip Tapp continued, “We have substantially widened our curriculum over the last couple of years, introducing an A Level in Media and BTECs in Applied Science, Art & Design, Business and Health & Social Care and all of these subjects performed strongly. Three quarters of our BTEC students took advantage of our broad range of vocational and academic subjects and studied one or more A Level alongside BTECs which has meant they really have got the best of both worlds. The blend of vocational and academic is performing exceptionally well and is very much here to stay at Wolgarston. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my congratulations to all of our students and to our excellent team of teachers.”
