Sixth Form Students at Wolgarston High School Collect Their Final Results

Students at Wolgarston High School Sixth Form in Penkridge collected their A Level and BTEC results today after a very unusual finish to their high school education. For many students this will be their first time visiting the school for five months, but it is still a valuable opportunity to celebrate the successful culmination of their school education and to see their friends face-to-face once more.

The results process has been significantly different this year due to the cancellation of exams, but despite this, the results are broadly in-line with the school’s expectations.

Adam Simmonds, Head of Sixth Form, said “It has been an extraordinary results day at Wolgarston today in light of Corona virus and the government’s ‘Triple lock’ announcement this week. I am very proud and pleased to announce that students have been able to take their next steps into apprenticeships and university destinations, typically with their first choice of destination. Students are going on to study a huge range of courses including Architecture, Medicine, Photography, Civil Engineering, Liberal Arts, Law and Astro-Physics (to name a few) at numerous universities including the Russell Group ones of Durham, Liverpool, Bath and Manchester (amongst others). We wish all of our ex-students well in their futures beyond Wolgarston.”

Jo Fairclough, Headteacher, said “I would like to congratulate all students on their hard work over the past two years and I look forward to seeing them thrive as they move on this summer to university courses and employment opportunities. I also want to say a big thank you to all teaching staff who have been incredibly professional throughout and have ensured that the grading process has been managed fairly.”

“Wolgarston Sixth Form has long-since held a reputation as one of the best performing sixth forms in the area, and although this year has been very different, I am delighted that our students will leave us with a set of qualifications to be proud of.”

Next Thursday, Year 11 students will be collecting their results and many of them will be considering their next steps in their educational journey. Wolgarston Sixth Form is still accepting applications for students to start this September. You can find out more about the Sixth Form offer on the website www.wolgarston.staff.sch.uk
