Penkridge Middle Schools celebrates Ofsted achievement

Penkridge Middle School are celebrating a fantastic Ofsted report in which all aspects of the school were judged to be ‘Good’ with the subgroup of ‘personal development and welfare’ being classed as ‘Outstanding.’

Only days after appointing Natalie Frost, who had been Acting Head Teacher for the past twelve months, to the permanent role of Head Teacher, the school was visited on Tuesday 28th February and Wednesday 1st March by a team of inspectors from Ofsted. The inspectors thoroughly examined all aspects of the school, from behaviour and safeguarding to academic progression and quality of teaching. They observed lessons, met with governors and the leadership team and heard the views of students and parents, in order to make their decision about the quality of the whole school.

Mrs Frost said, “This report is a wonderful reflection of the dedication of staff, pupils and parents that ensures Penkridge Middle School goes from strength to strength. This is a great school and I am proud to lead it as we embark on the next stage of our very exciting learning journey.”

Across the board the feedback from the inspectors was positive and the resulting report is a clear message that Penkridge Middle School is not only an excellent school, but that it is strong example of an excellent middle school. Middle schools have a fantastic reputation with parents as they offer a mature yet comfortable learning environment for 9-13 year olds and are able to introduce pupils at Year 5 to the benefits of subject specific teaching and facilities.

Penkridge Middle School, which is a member of The Penk Valley Federation of Schools along with Wolgarston High School, Princefield First School and Marshbrook First School, forms the central stage of a learning journey for children and young people aged 2-19.

All four schools that form The Penk Valley Federation are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and all benefit from shared teaching expertise and leadership from their Head Teachers and Federation Governing Body. It is this shared vision of education for all children that results in young people leaving Wolgarston High School with the highest A Level attainment for state school students in Staffordshire.

This Ofsted report represents an important milestone for Penkridge Middle School on its journey. Parents from Penkridge and surrounding villages, and from further afield, are choosing Penkridge Middle School and pupil numbers are rapidly increasing. This popularity is ensuring an excellent future for a great school.
Parent feedback formed a key part of the Ofsted inspection and very much speaks for itself. Not only did a very high percentage of parents complete the survey in the 24-hours prior to the inspection, but the ratings and comments they gave the school were very positive, especially regarding the leadership of the school.

  1. Parents think very highly of the school and one parent summed up the views of many when they wrote, ‘Penkridge is a fantastic school that is very well led.’
  2. Pupils feel safe, and are safe, in school. They enjoy coming to school and consequently, attendance is consistently higher than the national average.
  3. The headteacher, ably supported by senior leaders, is relentless in her determination to provide the best-possible education for all pupils. She commands the support of pupils, parents and staff.
  4. From the beginning of Year 5, to when they leave the school in Year 8, pupils make good progress in all subjects.
  5. Specialist-subject teaching in all years means that pupils make particularly strong progress in subjects beyond English and mathematics. Consequently, pupils are academically very well prepared when they move on to high school.
