Academic success for Wolgarston GCSE students

Students are celebrating a superb set of GCSE results at Wolgarston High School in Penkridge. Not only did students achieve top-drawer grades in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, but they also continued the trend across a broad range of the foundation subjects. Headteacher Philip Tapp said, “I am particularly proud of our dedicated students and expert teachers who worked hand-in-hand to achieve these excellent results. At Wolgarston we have developed a real reputation for delivering success and this year is no different. “I am especially delighted to see such notable success in core subjects and this is down to teachers delivering great lessons and students backing it up with good old hard-work. Our English department is a case in point; nationally English has long-since been a subject that has split…

Wolgarston Community Day 2018

July 19, 2018

Today was Community Day. The one day in the year where students leave Wolgarston en masse and go out into the local community to make a positive impact on the lives and the environment of those around us. Our roving publicity team of students hopped on board the Wolgarston mini-bus and took to the lanes to discover the latest. When they got back to school they had just one hour to write up their reports, sift through their hundreds of photos and prepare a mini-booklet which gives a flavour of what community day is all about. You can download and read it here Community Day booklet 2018

Our schools form Penk Valley Academy Trust

Our schools form Penk Valley Academy Trust

As of Sunday 1 April 2018, the five schools in our federation have cemented their future together by becoming Penk Valley Academy Trust. We have been operating as a federation of maintained schools since 2016 and have now taken the next step by converting to academy status. As a group of schools, we are all unified by our commitment to Visible Learning, the highly-effective approach to educational excellence based on the research of Professor John Hattie. For the most part, becoming schools with academy status will be ‘business as usual’ for students, staff and parents with the same leadership team at the helm. A new board of trustees has been formed to oversee the trust and comprises of a highly-skilled group of professionals and educationalists who have been selected to offer support and challenge to ensure our schools offer the education that our students and local community deserves. Philip Tapp, Chief Executive of Penk Valley Academy Trust said, “This is a very exciting time for us. Our schools originally came together as a federation with a clear purpose to provide the very best education to our community of learners from nursery through to sixth form. Now we are Penk Valley…

People and Places of Penkridge celebrated with new artwork

A striking collection of new artwork by young people, entitled ‘People and Places of Penkridge’, has been created for Penkridge station on London Midland’s Birmingham to Liverpool route. The innovative designs, featuring photography of the Staffordshire market town and its people, were designed by five Year 12 Art and Design students at Wolgarston High School. James Bayliss, David Errington, Matthew Evans, Emily Harvey-Stephens and Harriet Murray are currently studying for a BTEC in Art and Design. The project, using double exposure photography, formed an important part of their coursework. The research process for the project involved working with the community, including local traders, to build up a portfolio of images to inform the final designs. The…

Penk Valley Federation commits to becoming a Multi Academy Trust

October 30, 2017

On behalf of the governing body of the Penk Valley Federation of Schools I am delighted to announce our intention to convert all five of our schools to academy status under the auspices of the Penk Valley Academy Trust. Feedback from the community to our summer stakeholder consultation was overwhelmingly positive. People recognise that our schools are very good schools, that are well led and through Visible Learning, offer a truly exciting and successful approach to teaching and learning. Principally there are three main reasons why we have made this decision now: We are choosing to become a multi-academy trust on the terms and to a timescale that suits us; allowing us the independence to make decisions that are right for our children and young people rather than for someone else. We are building on the strong foundations already established by our federation; with a vision for the Penk Valley Academy Trust to be a shining light of local educational excellence. We are so confident in our vision…
